HISTORY
A local, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, HARTVILLE/LAKE Community Development (HLCD) was formed in October of 2019 by a small group of local business and community leaders interested in encouraging strategic economic development and improved quality of life for the Hartville/Lake Township area.
The first strategic initiative was underwriting the development of a Community Vision Plan to revitalize the West Maple Street corridor from Downtown Hartville to the roundabouts at the Hartville Hardware, Kitchen, and MarketPlace. Our initial project, the West Maple Corridor Revitalization Project Development Guidelines, is the product of that effort. The purpose of these guidelines is to help guide the development process of Hartville’s “Main Street.” Capturing many voices to drive neighborhood change, these guidelines set our community’s goals and ensure we do not stray from our core principles. It is a living document to be re-examined, revised, and updated regularly.
The current strategic initiative is to establish a meaningful gateway marker at the eastern end of the West Maple Street corridor in the square of Historic Downtown Hartville at 110 North Prospect Ave. More than just a gateway, this project is an opportunity to make the square of Hartville a more inviting and memorable place.
